Hilltop rest camp at an old dioptase mine in Kaokoland, between Opuwo and Sesfontein, looking west over Damaraland.
A characterful hilltop camp at a former mine, with sweeping views and an owner who shows guests the old workings. It suits self-sufficient 4x4 travellers on the Opuwo-Sesfontein route.
Camp Aussicht grew out of a small dioptase mine on a hill in remote Kaokoland, and the owner takes guests into the old workings and out to Himba communities. The few campsites have room for a vehicle, tent and fire, with a lookout point and walking trails on the hill. It lies about 5 km off the C43, roughly 70 km from both Opuwo and Sesfontein, and a 4x4 is recommended. Payment is cash only and supplies are far away, so stock up in Opuwo.
