A relaxed game-farm stopover outside Ghanzi built around a floodlit waterhole and ancient leadwood trees. Walking trails, self-drive loops and a vulture hide give a reason to stay more than one night.
Thakadu sits on a private game farm just south of Ghanzi, its bar, restaurant and pool gathered around a pan ringed by ancient leadwood trees. The waterhole is floodlit after dark, so evenings tend to be spent at the bar or over a farm-sourced game dinner while wildebeest, eland and springbok come in to drink, with hornbills and other birds busy around it by day. Campers pitch under the leadwoods, and two larger sites take overland trucks and 4x4 tour groups. Mornings suit the walking and cycling trails across the farm, a self-drive game loop or the sunken hide at the vulture restaurant. The last 3 km is a rough gravel track that ordinary cars manage slowly, which makes it an easy overnight stop between Namibia, Maun and the Central Kalahari.

Tar to the turn-off, then about 3 km of rough, partly sandy and rocky gravel; manageable in an ordinary car driven slowly.
About 3 km south of Ghanzi on the road towards the Trans-Kalahari Highway junction, take the signposted turn-off; the camp is about 3 km down a gravel track.
