- 4x4, deep sand
- December–April after good rains for the herds
The only public campsite in Nxai Pan, tucked into a grove of tall trees on the pan's edge close to the busy dry-season waterhole. Getting there means deep sand and full self-sufficiency.
About
South Camp is the park's main campsite, set in a stand of tall, shady trees on the rim of Nxai Pan, a short drive from the main waterhole that draws game in the dry season. The sites are spread through the trees and run by a private concessionaire, so they must be booked ahead. The approach from the Maun-Nata road and the tracks inside the park are deep, corrugated sand, so a high-clearance 4x4 is essential. Come fully self-sufficient: there is no shop or fuel in the park.
