Gnus Gnus lies near its pan among red dunes and sparse thornveld in the little-visited north of the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi, on the Swartpan loop of the Kaa game-viewing trail. It is one of only a handful of bookable stops in this corner of the park and has nothing at all beyond a cleared spot, so bring every litre of water, all fuel and a way to deal with waste. The track sees few vehicles, which suits experienced, self-sufficient desert travellers who want solitude.

Enter at Kaa Gate (from Hukuntsi via Zutshwa) and follow the Kaa game-viewing trail onto the Swartpan loop; the camp is about 66 km from Kaa Gate by track, roughly 50 m off the loop.
